Prelude Dark Pain Support & Control Builds
Tizon heals and turrets; Sade locks zones with the golden cross.
Not every Prelude Dark Pain victory comes from raw damage. Tizon and Sade anchor the support-and-control axis in Early Access — one bringing heals, deployable turrets, and surprising damage potential; the other dropping a massive golden cross that locks down battlefield tiles. When paired with a Tammais frontline and Soren or Maya DPS, they turn messy Crusade patrols into controlled executions.
This guide covers both heroes’ build paths, including the popular preview strategy of investing Tizon heavily into damage instead of pure support.
Support role in the battle point system
Support heroes still move, attack, and spend battle points like everyone else. The difference is what their points buy:
- Healing and mitigation that extend effective squad HP.
- Deployables — turrets, traps, barrels from allies — that act between turns.
- Zone control that restricts enemy movement before your carries spend finishers.
Defending costs a point; supports should defend more often than glass DPS when focused, but not so often that damage stalls entirely.
Tizon — hybrid support / DPS build
Soren’s son Tizon arrives in the opening crisis. Previews describe his default kit as team healing plus mechanical turrets, but players who invest heavily into damage talents report he becomes one of the hardest hitters in Act 1. That flexibility defines his build identity.
Pure support path
Choose this when you lose missions because Maya or Soren die, not because kills are slow.
- Actives: heal, turret deploy, knockback rifle shot for peel, flex slot for bear trap or similar mobility denial.
- Passives: healing amplification or turret durability.
- Virtues: Will-focused branches that extend support uptime.
- Attributes: Will first, then Vitality, then modest Might.
- Gear: Will accessories and Vitality clothes from the equipment guide; weapon upgrades last.
Turrets punish enemies who move past them — pair with Tammais taunt to force paths through turret lanes.
Damage pivot path
Choose this when Tammais keeps the backline safe and you want a second carry beside Soren.
- Actives: prioritize rifle skills with heavy knockback and single-target burst; keep one heal for emergencies only.
- Passives: damage against marked, bleeding, or blinded targets sync with DPS builds.
- Virtues: Might or hybrid branches over pure healing.
- Attributes: Might and Finesse before Will beyond baseline heals.
- Gear: craft weapons before support accessories; dismantle old Will gear when respecing.
This path mirrors PCGamesN’s Early Access preview experience where damage Tizon outpaced expectations.
Settlement and raid note
If Tizon is your only reliable healer, do not send him on long settlement raids before unknown story missions. Raids remove heroes from the battle roster until timers complete. Stock crafting materials during raids with other heroes instead.
Sade — zone control build
Sade’s signature play is dropping a giant golden cross onto the grid, locking down a large area enemies struggle to traverse. She is the answer to objective missions where enemies rush a tile or scatter away from your Gala barrel traps.
Skill and virtue priorities
- Actives: cross placement, area denial follow-up, ranged strike or debuff, mobility to reposition the cross footprint.
- Passives: extend zone duration or punish enemies who enter locked tiles.
- Virtues: Will and control branches; avoid glass-cannon virtues unless you skip Tizon heals entirely.
Attributes and gear
Will scales cross uptime and support skills. Vitality keeps Sade alive while she stands near the controlled zone — she is not a backline sniper. Craft Will accessories early, then upgrade clothes before weapons.
Placement fundamentals
- Identify the objective tile or chokepoint before deployment.
- Place the cross to cut enemy paths, not ally escape routes.
- Let Tammais taunt enemies into the zone; do not taunt them out.
- Detonate Gala barrels on clustered enemies pinned inside when possible.
Moving battlefields require pre-planning: place crosses where enemies will be, not where they stand on turn one.
Five-hero support compositions
Balanced control (recommended)
| Hero | Function |
|---|---|
| Tammais | Taunt |
| Soren | Bleed DPS |
| Maya | Blind / cone |
| Sade | Zone lock |
| Tizon | Heal + turret OR damage pivot |
Swap Tizon to pure support if Sade carries zone duty alone; swap to damage if Sade’s cross solves most map problems.
Double control (hard maps)
Replace Maya with Gala on clustered missions: Sade locks, Gala barrels, Tammais holds, Soren finishes. Tizon heals because this comp lacks a dedicated ranged safety net.
Synergy checklist
Before retrying a failed mission, verify:
- Cross footprint does not block ally flanks to high ground.
- Turrets cover paths enemies use after taunt.
- Heals are cast before defensive skills expire on Tammais.
- Support gear crafted Will before luxury DPS pieces — see items hub.
Common support mistakes
- Full heal Tizon with zero damage when missions fail on timer — pivot damage or add Gala.
- Cross placement on empty tiles — zone control needs enemies inside it.
- Overlapping deployables — turrets and barrels compete for the same chokepoint; plan one layer of control per turn.
- Ignoring gear respec costs when swapping Tizon from support to DPS — dismantle old Will accessories.
Act 1 vs. full release
Magic support and control classes expand at 1.0 with more heroes and factions. Tizon and Sade teach zone discipline that transfers to future recruits. Our Early Access review flags combat length — good control setups shorten fights by preventing enemy actions entirely, not by adding more damage numbers.
Run support with intention: Tizon keeps the revolution alive turn by turn; Sade tells the Crusade where it is allowed to stand. Together they make builds hub damage comps actually reach their payoff windows.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Should Tizon heal or deal damage in Act 1?
Start support if you lose heroes often. Pivot damage once [Tammais](/builds/tank-frontline/) stabilizes fights. Previews show both paths work with free respecs.
Does Sade's cross damage enemies?
Focus on its zone lock utility in Act 1. Pair with [DPS](/builds/dps-assassin/) finishers rather than treating the cross as primary damage.
Can you run both Tizon and Sade without a dedicated tank?
Not recommended in Act 1. Without Tammais taunt, enemies reach Maya and Sade too quickly on overworld patrols.
Which support hero fits five-hero squads better?
Sade for objective and choke maps; Tizon for general sustain and flexible damage. Many players bring one support flex and rotate skills per mission.
